A Laem Chabang bank escaped unscathed after wannabe robbers were forced to leave empty-handed.
They used a tow rope attached to a car to yank an ATM out of the bank wall but fled after a neighbour raised the alarm. Police found the ATM holding about four million baht in cash lying on the ground, but the criminals had fled in a fast getaway vehicle.
Police said that the yanking created a lot of noise which awakened neighbors 4 a.m. Police Captain Chamnarn Korkert surmised that the thieves had fled to avoid being arrested after realizing that they had awakened many people from their slumbers. Two of the gang were wearing masks and overalls and the driver was sporting a balaclava.
