Question by jsteward72: Thailand vacation. Where should I go?
First night or so will be in Bangkok. Then I was thinking of traveling some places. PLaces that I have in mind are Chiang Mai, Ko Samui and that temple in Cambodia. I have no clue where to go exactly in in Chiang Mai and Ko Samui though. Also, I heard of that James Bond bay before that was used in the Dr. No movie from the 60′s. Is that worth going to?

Can anybody please provide me with some cool places to see and go to while in Thailand. Was thinking of spending 2-3 weeks there.

I have family in Bangkok and Koh Samui! You’ll love it. Chiang Mai is very pretty as well.
    Have fun.

If you have time I suggest you invest in a book called “Lonely Planet -Thailand ” Lots of great information, photos, maps, places to stay and visit etc.
James Bond Island ( The Man with the Golden Gun) is not particularly spectacular but if you like boat trips its a pleasant way to spend a day. Maya Bay is better ( The Beach )

In Chiang Mai you can do one day to three day elephant treks. You can visit minority villages. There is a nice Sunday market every Sunday evening. I really enjoyed the ladies with the 99 baht pile of clothing. I picked up six pieces there. My friend and I also took a cooking class from Suriyan and Supredee Nanian. Their e-mail is brotherchef@hotmail.com. We had a really good time while taking this course and you get a cookbook of everything you cooked that day. We also went bamboo rafting. You’ll want a bathing suit for that, but it was hella fun. Our pole guy kept acting like he was going to dump us in the river, but he didn’t. There’s also a place where you can go see tigers, and even go in the cage with them. Just don’t wear anything that a kitten would find entertaining because apparently the tigers occasionally find the same things entertaining. It just does a lot more damage if they swat at a loose string than when your cat does it.

Bangkok was cool. Khaosan Road is a crazy kind of place. You’ll either like it or hate it. My friend and I were there for 10 days and really enjoyed ourselves. There’s a really cool weekend market with so many things to look at. You can go to Wat Pho with the Reclining Buddha. You can take a tour to the Floating Market, or go see orchid and coconut farms. The Siam Niravit (sp?) show was really great. They offer a buffet dinner beforehand and a courtyard pre-show. There are a lot of other things to see and do. Just check with any travel agency. They offer daily tours of stuff.

It really depends on what kinds of things you want to see and do.
There’s plenty to see and do in Bangkok but I would definately head up to Chiang Mai. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses there. Try Tapae Place or Sri Pat for clean rooms in the $ 20 range. They are walking distance to many of the sights in and around town. Be sure to be there on a Sunday as there is a “walking street” every Sunday with lots of crafts and food for very low prices. Chiang Mai is also a base for lots of other activities such as elephant camps, hill tribe visits, and a host of outdoor activities.
The temple you’re talking about in Cambodia is Angkor Wat and it’s in Siem Reap. It really is worth visiting. I was just there last month for a week. Stayed at a nice little guest house called Eight rooms. It’s a five minute walk to Pub Street where all the restaurants and nightlife is. The temples are amazing. Get a three day pass for $ 40.00 and you can see alot of it. Hire a tuk-tuk for about $ 12.00 a day and he will take you where you want to go. A guide will cost about $ 20.00 a day but you can get very good guide books at the sight from vendors for $ 5.00.
I would skip Ko Samui and go to Phuket or Krabi. The beaches are cleaner there and you can take a day trip out to James Bond Island or Phi Phi Islands. They are both very scenic with good beaches for snorkeling and kyaking.
The islands are basically beach and resort type areas so expect to do some beach activities.

    You are welcome to Thailand.

Apart from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, I would recommend you to visit Phuket. There are many great and beautiful beaches in Koh Samui and Phuket. And a lot of activities to do there; i.e. diving, snorkelling, shopping, etc.

You may get some ideas about Koh Samui and Phuket through my contents here below. I’m quite sure you will love these two islands.

Have a nice stay in Thailand.
