I train Kickboxing and we’re told to bend the knee and flick straight right before it hits the target. I’m not too sure if this is originally from TKD or not, but it makes your strike quicker, uses less energy and makes it harder for your opponent to know the final destination of the kick (head, ribs or thigh)

  6. ShahnamPersia says:

Tae Kwon does majorly focuses on legs, but they practice allot of fancy kicks, where as kickboxing and Muay thai is straight forward, quick and well balanced!
Karate is the ace of fists? You gotta be joking. Try boxing!
I’ve done Karate, Tae Kwondo and kung fu as a child/teenager and recently joined a kickboxing gym and in my opinion, it’s the best and most complete form of martial arts for striking!

All these guys have shitty technique. those kicks they’re throwing are weak and so fucking wrong…If you’re going to demonstrate, get someone who knows what the fuck they’re doing. PUSSIES.

  17. tyawesome johnson says:

ya i ended up doing the same thing because i noticed tkd kicks are the most powerful and when you use your shin it just helps keep me from getting hurt

  18. johnydeltablues says:

i was kicked in my leg once by a muay thai fighter…we were just messing around on the street, not fighting for real, when he kicked me in my thigh i almost cried from pain, and he said he just used 10% of power…i could not walk properly for a week XD..lesson.. don’t ever play-fight with martial artist.

  19. saiga76239mmm says:

He’s kicking low on the shin & instep to get that dramatic smacking sound on the bag. This is still somewhat acceptable as it’s still using the shin.

Kicking w/o bending the knee delivers more power, but you have less control to recover should you miss. With the miss, you’ll rotate 360 easier bended. Bending at the knees also gives more speed & better agility & versatility in case you want to adjust on the fly towards the target, ie. the move.

  20. fadfasdfasdfify says:

Ya man, I’ve gotten all way confused by different instructions. I have basically gone back to identical tkd form just with shin striking instead of instep.

  21. monnapass says:

mirko and bas rutten used taekwondo, in taekwondo we got two different federations. we got world taekwondo federation( 80% kicking 20% striking) and we got international taekwondo federation(50 kicking and 50 striking) sorry for my english, im from norway

  22. Donyk says:

You’re absolutely right! in other words its not effective enough :) unless one has been practicing it for a very long time. Its mainly a sport, and besides i’ve seen too many matches with Muy Thai VS TKD and Muy Thai dominates almost ALL of the time.

  23. Tazy50 says:

it’s MMA. And I bet there are champs that used TKD kicks in their fights. I almost guarantee you. Because nobody is going to use FULL TKD in an MMA fight because MMA uses both hands AND FEET, also elbows and knees. Muay Thai has all of that. So muay thai is good at 25% punching, 25% kicking, 25% elbows, 25% knees. TaeKwonDo is like 80% kicking, and 20% arm work. Barely elbows, not even sure about knees. That is why people won’t use TKD in MMA, because it’s not built for that.

  24. Donyk says:

really? but which one is more effective in real life? …. lets just say there hasnt be ANY TKD MMA champs at all but lots of Muy Thai fighters became champs.
