Muay Boran (Thai: มวยโบราณ, lit. “ancient boxing”) is an umbrella term for the unarmed martial arts of Thailand prior to the introduction of modern equipment and rules. It is the ancestor of modern Muay Thai. The word muay which means boxing comes from the Sanskrit term mavya, while boran or boraan means ancient in Thai. The art is significantly different from its modern descendent. Whereas Muay Thai is often called the “science of eight limbs”, muay boran is said to make use of nawa awut which means nine weapons and refers to the hands, legs, elbows, knees and head.

I agree. Western classes are just like jock holes for wannabe tough guys and there is no tradition in MMA gyms here. There is no student teacher mentorship either.

  2. MaharlikaAWA says:

Man that last move was awsome at the very end!

You know what is funny? is for all the times these MMA guys claim to train in Muay Thai you hardly ever see these types of movements.

I am a taekwondo practicioner, but I really like boran, because it is art. I think most of muay thai practicioners now are just bullies full of shit. They should learn the ancient way to keep being humble.

  8. BorderAxis21 says:

true but everyone can master martial arts… although i get your point, it seems lots of westerners watch a movie and try and copy it…
