that’s it – you possibly identified the underlying problem of this conflict. thai people (excluding at least myself) are waay too concerned with face (my definition would relate to public relations, or professionalism in general) and always appear elitist, love to tell the world how good we are, and how we are versatile at adapting to a world community – and it’s all a lie. we’re whoring our culture to others so we can gain face – and it pisses me off to no end.

In Asian terms, Pride, Honor & Reputation is known as Face. If something is to be done or not to be done, it depends on who we know and what reputation we hold. For example in the past Japanese Samurai would commit suicide instead of surrender to keep his honor. Even when the Asians knows they are wrong, they are too proud to admit it and still insist they are right in order to save their “face” or reputation of making wise decisions.
face is pretty basic actually, asians gave it a name. it’s just as prevalent in the west though. there are people in the west who drive big cars with nice wheels, but live in tiny apartments. cubic zirconias were popularized in the west, not in asia, so that people could appear wealthy. i see a lot of westerners buying fake bags here in thailand to look rich to their friends back home. western gov’ts won’t negotiate in public with certain groups, but will do behind the scenes negotiations.

Yes when I was here it was the iPhone and now it’s the Blackberry. I wonder if the iPad will take off and we’ll see lots of hi-so Thais walking around with their iPads.

Tony you said that the red shirt fired the grenades. So do you really have the evidences and could you prove that were really the red shirt protesters had done that and not the third hand ( terrorists) tried to take advantage of the situation and let the military to have the excuse to creak down and using the deadly force on the red shirt protesters. It seems to me that the red shirt are not angry mob like the Muslim in Europe or middle east mob.

Those who pro government aren’t support this rally because they fail to difference of the fight of right and justice or the fight for malay survival. Most of pro government are malay (no chinese and indian) this comment seem related to malay survival (UMNO) not because of justice and right of citizen.

Itu la, kalau kita lihat banyak spekulasi dari pihak polis dan rakyat. Well, for one, government bought immigrants with a malaysian citizenship to gain votes for BN. I don’t really have to look for proofs. Evidence just shows itself because of how careless the government is.
