im planning a vacation to thailand and will be in phuket from dec3 to dec9… am looking for a hotel that is comparable with the deevana resort spa wing… around $ 50 per night. Found the deevana on a website for 47$ per night but only for the garden wing which i am not liking from the pictures. Also …. do you think i could get a deal if i called the hotel direct??? or is it always better through websites?

There’s only one way to find out where to get the best price. Check the price on the “discount” websites and then check the hotel website or e-mail or call the hotel. Usually the discount websites have the best price, but not always. December is the high season for tourism in Phuket and Thailand, prices are higher and hotels can become fully booked.
Try agoda.com, sawadee.com, asiarooms.com and hoteltravel.com. All are good and reliable websites, normally with very good prices.

December is high season or peak season in Phuket .I checked many times about the website of hotel rate is cheaper than hotel direct rate about 10% to 25%.

From my experience, never get better rate than booking through the website. You may try this site, http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels%20Map%20Pages/Phuket%20Map/Patong%20Hotel%20Location%20Map.html it shows you hotel by hotel location map (just in case you may like other hotel nearby).
also, It offers lowest rate guarantee too. My Ausie friend recommended it to me and I like it a lot. G’day
Normally book from internet is cheaper than booking directly, because agency get the discount rate from hotels.
Anyway It’s good idea if you try to contact hotels directly and check the price with them before book from the internet.
