Ayutthaya, Thailand FLOOD 2011 – Nov 7 & 8

Jul 08, 2012 27 Comments by

Two thirds of Thailand was submerged in the recent MEGA FLOOD. The ancient city of Ayutthaya was inundated with heavy floodwaters. After 5 weeks of waiting, I went home to see the damage to my home and to the beautiful city where I live. This film shows the damage going into the city, and visuals around my neighborhood inside the city. Ayutthaya means INVINCIBLE…

Membership site now open: retirecheap.tv Getting away from Chiang Mai’s hectic, polluted and slightly dangerous driving conditions is great. The air usually clears as you get high into the mountainous North Country. Except during February, March and April. But it is still a gorgeous journey, especially for motorcyclists. Follow along with me for the day and enjoy our journey to Mae Hong Son. This time though I am taking public transportation. Let’s see what Mae Hong Son has to offer. Thanks – error corrected. I fell asleep while loading – so tired… Yes, there will be another update: Ayutthaya Nov 10. THANK YOU Japan for the efficient pump systems brought into Ayutthaya to save the day. Without them, it could have taken many months to drain the nightmare out of the ancient city. And thank you NightBazaar for following…

  2. NightBazaar says:

Just a note about the title which should read 2011. So then has the flood water pretty well drained out of the historical parks area?

A used bike would indeed be a better option because, for one Thailand seems to have a large bike riding community which should ensure a good variety to choose from and second, very reasonable prices on parts and repair as seen in one of your other videos where you got a repair on your bike at a fraction of the cost here in the states. Lastly lets face it there is a peace of mind riding a bike you know your a way around and have maintained properly as opposed to the mystery ride.

Even purchasing a used bike is a better option than renting if your plan is to stay long term.

Just wanted to add here that I understand you travel a lot showing these videos and you can’t bring your bike everywhere. Also understand this is a project about options and that is what you present.

Great video and informative as always, very beautiful area. But I must say JC, that after viewing the majority of your videos and your comments regarding motorcycle rental, I am more inclined to purchase my own and avoid the scams and pitfalls of rental. There is no way I am letting go of my passport and quite frankly I am shocked they would even ask! I am looking at all that money in rental fees and seeing a good percentage of a new bike without the hassles and headaches of renting.

A good rule of thumb for all of life. Many people forget that there is only one destination and we shouldn’t be in a hurry to get there!

Great video JC. I worked all around France a few years back and I remember many stops to take in the beauty of the surroundings. For me its always the journey more than the end destination.

It is when it isn’t smoky!

Being from FL myself I too remember. When I lived on my boat in the Keys I had to sleep with a fan blowing directly on me to sleep. Heat and humidity… yikes. Like Bangkok!

Living in the gulfcoast of Florida, I fondly remember how the houses were built sanz ac I can’t imagine living with out air here now. Not enough tree shade and too much concrete now.

  13. retirecheapjc says:

Yikes Pai! My You Tube viewer demographic are people thinking about coming over to retire and take it easy. I am not sure what percentage are older hippies wanting to relive their youth! Not exactly a retirement community.

For Thais the inflation would be fairly significant. Say a 25 Baht meal goes to 30 Baht. But for us that doesn’t equate to too much. Mostly it has just been food and fuel. Also the costs have come down but the retailers have kept the inflated prices.

  24. chronicreader says:

Sigh, JC. You make me want to retire right now! :-)

  25. floridalabrador says:
